Box Score

Moraga, CA- Saint Mary's freshman Michael Clegg recorded his fourth goal in two games and sophomore Brian Mason posted his second consecutive shutout to lead the Gaels past Oregon State 1-0 Saturday afternoon from Saint Mary's Stadium. With the win, SMC improves to 2-0 on the year while OSU falls to 0-1-1.

Seventeen minutes into the game the Gaels wasted no time taking advantage of a Beaver foul. Inside the half-circle, 19-yards out, Clegg blasted a shot to the left of the wall that found the back of the net past a diving Packy Deenihan.

The goal was all the Gael defense needed as they held on to stymie the Beavers attack. Mason recorded his second consecutive shutout to begin the season matching his feat from the beginning of last year. The shutout is now Mason's seventh which moves him into a tie for fifth place in the SMC record books. Mason added four saves on the afternoon.

The Gaels created some great chances in the beginning of the second half but were unable to find the net. SMC out-shot OSU 12-7 and held the Beavers to just two second half shots.

The two wins to start the season marks the first time since 1991 and only the second time in school history that the Gaels have started a season 2-0.

Clegg, who became the only player in school history to start their career with a hat-trick continues to impress with four goals in the first two games played.

Saint Mary's will return to action for its first road contest of the year when the Gaels travel to San Jose to face the Spartans on Wednesday, September 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Spartan Stadium.
