As a Redshirt Senior (2013): Finished seventh in the West Coast Conference with a .326 average… recorded 47 hits in 144 at-bats… appeared in 49 games making 39 starts… finished second on the team with 33 runs scored… finished the year with 10 doubles and a .418 on-base percentage… also stole eight bases… had 12 multi-hit games… over a seven game span, Melgosa went 14-for-30 with three RBI… had four three-hit games, including back-to-back three-hit games against Georgetown.
As a senior (2012): Played in just three games making one start before an injury ended his season...played one start...hit .250 going 1-for-4 with an RBI...started as a designated hitter against Southern Utah on 2/18 went 2-for-2 with a RBI in the win.
As a junior (2011): Played in 37 games making 16 starts for Saint Mary's in 2011...finished the year hitting .238 going 20-for-84...scored 12 runs and drove in seven...boasted a .347 on-base percentage...was a menace on the base paths going 6-for-7 in stolen base attempts...the six stolen bases was second on the team...came up clutch in situational hitting all year...hit .273 with runners on base, hit .433 as a leadoff hitter...hit .500 on the year as a pinch hitter...hit .375 with runners in scoring position and was a perfect 3-for-3 with runners on third...a solid defensive player, he kept his fielding percentage immaculate by posting a 1.000 on his way to recording 18 defensive put outs for the Gaels.
As a sophomore (2010): Appeared in 37 games with 27 starts for the Gaels...finished the season with a .289 batting average, with one home run, 10 RBI and 21 runs scored...had five doubles and tied for the team lead with two triples...had a .331 on base percentage and a .388 slugging percentage...had the Gaels' only five-hit game of the season, when he was 5-for-6 in his first start of the year against San Jose State on Feb. 20...had a triple, two RBI and three runs scored in the game against the Spartans...was 3-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored in a 13-1 win over Seattle University on May 23...had seven hits in the four-game series against Seattle, finished the series 7-for-17 (.411) with two RBI and six runs scored...had a season and career-long five-game hitting streak from Mar 5-10...hit his first career home run against UC Davis on May 11...had a double and a tripled against San Diego on May 29 in an 8-1 SMC win over the No. 15 ranked Toreros...was 5-for-7 in stolen base attempts.
As a freshman (2009): Played in 19 games making six starts in the field…also made seven appearances on the mound for the Gaels…made his Saint Mary's debut on 2/28 pitching 2.2 innings against Missouri State...finished the season hitting .267 going 8-for-30…notched his first collegiate hit on 4/5 clubbing a double against USF…hit .554 as a leadoff hitter and .400 as a pinch hitter…in his first collegiate start on 4/9 against Pepperdine he went 1-for-2 with two walks…went 2-for-4 with a walk on 5/8 against Santa Clara…on the mound he sported a 0-0 record and a 12.46 ERA…three two scoreless innings on 4/21 at UC Davis.
High School: Came to Saint Mary's by way of Buhach Colony High School in Merced, CA...while playing for the Thunder Markus had an outstanding career that included being a four-time letterman for baseball...in 2008 he was named First Team All-Area, Sun-Star First Team All-Area, and First Team All-League following a senior season in which he hit .431 with 47 hits, scoring 39 runs, while driving in 22, clubbing nine doubles, four triples, and four homeruns...over the course of his career he tallied 37 multi-hit games and 35 stolen bases...was also pretty tough on the mound for the Thunder as well, in his senior season he posted a 2.27 ERA in 12.1 innings pitched, with 18 strike outs, while recording two save...was also recruited by UC Davis and MIT...post graduate plans include going to medical school and pursing a career as a doctor or dentist.
