San Jose, CA - The Saint Mary's softball team was unable to overcome the San Jose Spartans in a double header on Saturday afternoon, as they fell 6-4; 3-0. Senior Sandra Ruezga tabbed her first home run of the season in the first game, recording one hit, one run, and three RBI on the day.

The Spartans came out offensively minded in the first game, posting six runs and five hits. In the opening inning San Jose State managed two runs, as the Spartan's Hayes brought in two runs on a double. After giving up the two runs, senior Megan Galloway held San Jose scoreless for four straight innings, recording three strikeouts.

In the fifth inning the Gaels began to find their rhythm, as five Saint Mary's players got on base. Molly Bergeson started the inning with walk, while Bronwyn Russell kept things going a single. Batting third was Sandra Ruezga, nailing a home run and putting the Gaels on the board for the first time, 3-2. Sophomore Kat Delpit remained on pace, doubling in her third at bat of the day. Delpit eventually scored on a Spartan error, posting the fourth and final run for the Gaels.

San Jose took advantage of inconsistent pitching in the bottom of the fifth, as Megan Galloway was unable to find her rhythm in the circle. The senior walked five Spartans in the inning, while two hits were recorded by San Jose's Fangonlio and Wells. At the end of the fifth the Spartans were up 6-4, and would go on to win the game, as the Gaels were unable to score the rest of the way.

In the second game of the day the Gaels' bats were silenced, as they only posted two hits and recorded no runs. San Jose's pitcher Bajarano recorded her first win of the season, posting nine strikeouts in seven innings. Delpit and Russell were the only Gaels to record a hit, posting singles in the second and third innings respectively.

Molly Bergeson pitched six solid innings for the Gaels, giving up three runs and eight hits, while posting three strikeouts.
