Box Score

Moraga, CA - In the third game of the Saint Mary's Invitational, the Gaels topped the visiting UC Riverside highlanders, 6-4. Freshman Maryanne Cronin overcame challenging weather, as she earned the win for Saint Mary's, improving her record to 4-2 on the year. As a team the Gaels have posted a 7-10 overall record.

Saint Mary's was named the visiting team following the official coin flip, and did not waste anytime crossing home plate, as their first two batters, Bronwyn Russell and Molly Bergeson, each scored on Jenna Smith's single down the left field line.

The Highlanders countered the Gaels' attack in the bottom of the first, as they also scored two runs to start the game.

The Gaels would continue to score sporadically throughout the rest of the afternoon, posting runs in the second, third, and fifth innings. With no outs and runners on first and second in the bottom of the eighth, Bergeson replaced Cronin in the circle, forcing UC Riverside's next batter to hit into a double play. The senior then earned the final out of the inning on a fly ball to centerfield, posting her first save of the season, 6-4.

Russell ended the day with two runs, two hits, and two RBI, as the Gaels finished with a total of six runs, 11 hits, and four RBI.

With weather permitting, Saint Mary's will continue play in their invitational on Saturday, March 15, as they face UC Riverside at 10:00 AM and Sacred Heart at 12:00 PM.
