No. 37 Women's Tennis Tops Gauchos 6-1

Moraga, CA - The No. 37 Saint Mary's women's tennis team earned their fourth consecutive win, as they took down the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos, 6-1. Two out of the Gaels' three doubles teams recorded wins, capturing the doubles point, while earning five points in singles play. With the victory Saint Mary's improves to 12-4 overall.

The Gaels started off on the right foot as they captured the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions. Seniors Stef Ordoveza and Feline Charlot paired-up to defeat UC Santa Barbara's Jill Damion and Asagi Onaga, 8-4. At the three position the freshman duo of Alex Poorta and Calire Soper took down Tova Hausman and Brittany Kausen, 8-3.

In singles action senior Jessica Hoath dominated Marta Simic, capturing a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 1 position. Poorta and Soper defeated their opponents, 6-4, 6-2, and 6-3, 6-2 respectively, and rounding out the singles wins were Ninke Strijbis and Erin Young, recording the victory at the No. 4 and No. 6 spots.

Saint Mary's match against the Gauchos was the last regular season competition on the year, marking the seniors' last appearance at the Korth Tennis Complex.

The Gaels will continue play on Friday, April 4, as they travel across the bay to face fellow WCC member, San Francisco at 2:00 PM.
