Women's Basketball Cruises In 104-58 Exhibition Win Over Chico State

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's basketball team shot 52% from the field en route to a 104-58 exhibition win over Chico State on Sunday afternoon at McKeon Pavilion. The Gaels used a 44-9 run to close out the first-half, taking a 51-23 lead at the break.

For the Gaels, Louella Tomlinson finished with 22 points (10-for-18 field goals), 12 rebounds, seven blocks and five assists. Kate Gaze scored 17 points with five three pointers and five assists, while Jasmine Smith added 14 points and four assists.

Off the SMC bench, freshman Danielle Mauldin poured in 13 points and grabbed 12 boards in 20 minutes. Suzie Davis connected on her first four three-pointers and finished with 12 points in just 13 minutes.

"I felt that we were able to limit our turnovers and we shot well," said head coach Paul Thomas. "One of our individual game goals was to have assists on 60 to 70 percent of our baskets... we were super efficient tonight."

As a team, the Gaels were 40-for-77 (.519), with 31 assists and nine turnovers. Saint Mary's shot 14-for-24 from behind the arc and outrebounded Chico State 51-40.

Chico State was led by Molly Collins with 20 points on 9-for-20 shooting, while Taylor Lydon added 10 points off the bench. The Wildcats shot 32.9 percent and grabbed 40 rebounds, with 16 coming on the offensive end.

The Wildcats looked to be the more aggressive team in the beginning minutes, taking a 14-7 lead over the Gaels. SMC quickly responded, going on a 7-0 run, capped by a Tomlinson offensive rebound and put-back to tie the game at 14-14 at the 12:01 mark.

From that point it was all Gaels as took control going on a 44-9 run to close the half. Davis connected on all four of her three-pointers in the first-half, while the Gaels as a team went 7-for-11 from behind the arc in the first half.

Saint Mary's outscored Chico State 53-35 in the second-half as the Gaels shot 60% from the field. After shooting 3-for-10 in the first-half, Tomlinson connected on 7-of-8 shots in the second-half.

Saint Mary's is back in action for its season opener on Friday, November 12 when it hosts Washington State at 6:00 p.m. in McKeon Pavilion
