WTEN: Gaels Go Undefeated on Final Day of Invitational

MORAGA, Calif.- The Saint Mary's women's tennis team completed a stellar weekend at the SMC Fall Invitational on Sunday with an undefeated record on the final day. The Gaels won all seven matches they played in on Sunday and there were multiple Gaels in championship matches.

In doubles play, the Gael duos of Catherine Isip and Anna Chkhikvishvili, and sophomores Jenny Jullien and Jade Frampton both made it to the finals of the Red Division but the championship match was not played.

A pair of Gaels also made it to the Red Division singles finals on Sunday but that match was not played either. Isip defeated California's Cessi Estlander, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, while Jullien topped Stanford's Ellen Tsay 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. Isip (6-0) and Jullien (7-0) both won all of their singles and doubles matches on the weekend.

Catherine Leduc and Molly Aloia captured the White Division doubles championship with a quick 8-3 win over Gabby Verspieren and Irina Morozova of Dominican.

The Gaels had four other singles wins in round robin play on Sunday. Chkhikvishvili defeated Portland's Nastya Polyakova 6-4, 7-6 (5), while Frampton topped San Jose State's Sabi Leon-Chao 7-5, 6-1. The Gael freshmen Catherine Leduc and Elizabeth Searl also won their singles matches easily, with Leduc defeating Erica Medlin of San Jose State 6-1, 6-3 and Searl making quick work of San Francisco's Blair Reed 6-0, 6-1.

Saint Mary's will return to action next weekend when they travel to Stanford for the ITA Northwest Regional Championships. The event will take place from Friday, Oct. 21 to Tuesday Oct. 25 at the Taube Tennis Center.
