
LAX: Stanford and Oregon win MPSF Semifinal Match-Ups

MORAGA, Calif. - The Stanford Cardinal came back from a seven goal deficit to defeat Oregon 12-10 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship game on Sunday at Saint Mary's Stadium. The Ducks scored the first seven goals of the game but the Cardinal chipped away to earn the MPSF's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Tournament MVP honors went to Stanford freshman goalkeeper Lyndsey Munoz who entered the game as a substitution and allowed only three goals in 45:28 of action.
Stanford was led by Leslie Foard with three goals, while Sarah Flynn, Karen Nesbitt and Jackie Candelaria added two goals apiece.
Oregon as led by Shannon Propst and Jess Drummond with three goals each. Oregon's goalkeeper Caroline Federighi tallied 15 saves and was also named to the all-tournament team.
Oregon scored the game's first seven goals and led 7-0 with 15:28 remaining in the first half. Stanford scored four straight goals before Oregon stopped the bleeding with a score before halftime as the Ducks led 8-4 at the break.
In the second half, Stanford continued to chip away as Candelaria tied the game at 9-9 with 17:16 remaining. Oregon retook the lead on a Propst goal with 11:16 left. Stanford then got back-to-back goals by Foard to tie the game at 10:38 and take its first lead at 6:24. The Cardinal added an insurance goal with 5:26 left, and was able to run out the clock to claim the title.

MPSF Semifinals Recap (4/29/11)
MORAGA, Calif. - The Stanford Cardinal and Oregon Ducks won each of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse semifinal match-ups on Friday afternoon at Saint Mary's Stadium. Stanford outscored Cal by 10 goals in the first half and cruised to the 20-11 victory. Oregon took trailed 3-2 against Denver before ending the game on a 5-1 run as the Ducks defeated the Pioneers 7-4.
In the first semifinal, Cal came out and scored the first two goals of the game. Stanford would go on a 13-0 run to put the game out of reach at halftime.
Stanford had 10 players score in the game, with eight players registering at least two goals. Emilie Boeri led the way with three goals and an assist, while Karen Nesbitt also scored three times. Annie Read earned the win in goal making three saves in 39:52 of action.
Cal was led by Hayley Olson and Vail Horn with three goals each. Alexa Rozelle scored twice for Cal.
Stanford outshot Cal 40-19 and Cal had a slight edge in draw controls at 17-15.
Oregon defeated Denver 7-4 as the Ducks earned a spot in the MPSF Championship game for the first time in program history.
"We saw glimpses of our game plan work in the first half and executed them in the second half," said Oregon head coach Jen Larsen. "We are excited, advancing to the championship game for the first time. We are going to relax, and then regroup and execute on Sunday."
Denver took a 3-2 lead after Annabelle Gilbride scored with 9:06 remaining in the half. Oregon scored the final three goals of the first half to lead 5-3 at halftime.
In the second half, Oregon scored at the 28:00 and 22:58 marks to open up a 7-3 edge. Denver cut the deficit down to 7-4 with 16:36 left but the Ducks held the Pioneers scoreless the rest of the way.
Oregon was led by Alex Breiner with three goals and Jana Drummond scored twice. Caroline Federighi had nine saves in goal.
Denver had four different players score as Laura Ciccomascolo, Alex Befus, Annabelle Gilbride and Becca Steinberg scored. Ashley Harman had eight saves in goal.
Oregon outshot Denver 20-17 and each team had 18 turnovers.
