WBK | Gaels Host USF And USD In WCC Action This Week

MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's women's basketball team (11-4, 2-0 West Coast Conference) returns to McKeon Pavilion this week to host two WCC match-ups. On Thursday, the Gaels host San Francisco (3-12, 1-1 WCC) at 7:00 p.m. SMC returns to the court on Saturday when the Gaels host San Diego (9-3, 0-0 WCC) at 2:00 p.m. Saint Mary's is coming off WCC opening weekend wins against Loyola Marymount and Brigham Young.
SAINT Mary's is ranked No. 37 in the Real Time RPI rankings and No. 40 in the NCAA RPI rankings.
Against LMU, the Gaels led by as many as 17 and led by 10 points for most of the game. Jackie Nared led four players in double figures with 19 points while Alex Carbonel had 11 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in the 82-72 victory.
In the win over the Cougars, Saint Mary's was down by nine points with five minutes left as the Gaels went through a field-goal drought. Nared tied the game with seven seconds left and Smith stole the inbounds pass and drew a foul as the Gaels completed a 54-48 rally.
Saint Mary's is 30-21 all-time against the Dons with seven consecutive victories against USF. The Dons last beat SMC on Jan. 24, 2008, a USF victory at McKeon Pavilion. Last year the Gaels cruised to a pair of victories over the Dons.
The Gaels are 39-12 all-time against the Toreros, including three victories last season and a thrilling three-point win over USD in the WCC semifinals last year.
San Francisco is led by Rheina Ale with 14.8 ppg while Katy Keating averages 9. 4 ppg. Taj Winston is near double-figures averaging 9.3 ppg. Whitney Daniels is the team leader in rebounds with 6.8 rpg. As a team, USF averages 63.8 ppg and gives up 72.1 ppg. USF's wins have come against San Jose State, Sacramento State and last week's 61-59 victory at Loyola Marymount.
San Diego is led by the duo of Dominique Conners and Morgan Woodrow. Conners averages 15.8 ppg and Woodrow averages 15.6 ppg. Amy Kame also adds 11.3 ppg and 5.7 rpg. Izzy Chilcott is the team rebounding leader with 6.4 rpg.
