MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's College Director of Athletics and Recreation Mike Matoso today has announced the hire of new Assistant Athletic Director for Strength and Conditioning Zach Margolis, who begins his post on Oct. 8.
"I am excited to announce Zach Margolis as our new Assistant Athletics Director for Strength and Conditioning," Matoso said. "I have worked with Zach before and he has an incredible background in the area of strength and conditioning, working at both the collegiate and professional levels. He is a huge addition for our coaches and student-athletes and I am thrilled to welcome him into the Gael family."
Margolis will oversee the Strength and Conditioning program for the Gaels' 16 Division I sports, along with the oversight of Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach Cody Butcher.
"I want to thank Mike Matoso and Kami Gray for this amazing opportunity," Margolis said. "I am very excited to join the Saint Mary's family and can't wait to help and add value to the coaches, athletic staff and student-athletes."
Margolis joins Saint Mary's after spending the past year at Wichita State as the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. Prior to Wichita State, Margolis was the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Stanislaus State's 14 varsity sports.
Prior to Stanislaus State, Margolis was the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Northern Colorado for five years before being promoted to Director of Sport Performance for Olympic sports.
Margolis graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science in exercise science in May 2008. He then received his Master's degree in May 2011 with an emphasis in sport science and nutrition from the University of Texas at Austin.
Margolis is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) in addition to certification through the CSCCA (Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association).
