SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Saint Mary's dominated all-around on Saturday afternoon in Santa Clara, sweeping the Broncos to improve their winning streak to four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• SET ONE | Saint Mary's and Santa Clara were neck-and-neck in the opening set as both teams were tied 8-8 early on. Both offenses continued to trade points and the set was tied as late as 14-14. However, SMC pulled away with a 2-point cushion and went on to win 25-21.
• SET TWO | Set No. 2 was another back-and-forth affair, but a 5-1 Saint Mary's run gave the Gaels a 10-8 advantage. SMC dominated the rest of the period, taking a 2-0 lead thanks to a 25-16 win in the second set.
• SET THREE | The Gaels went ahead early in what proved to be the final set and quickly built themselves a 6-point, 14-8 lead. SMC continued to deny the Broncos' efforts, ultimately winning the set 25-20 to earn the sweep.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Junior Alexsa "Crash" Parker was the only Gael to record a double-double on Saturday afternoon, posting 26 assists and 10 digs.
• Junior Sarah Chase (13 kills) and senior Lindsey Knudsen (12 kills) both reach double-digit kill totals while Chase also amassed seven digs and four blocks.
• Saint Mary's hit a season-high, .366 in the match.
QUOTABLE
"We are very happy with the win," said head coach Rob Browning. "Our team once again displayed composure and that helped a ton. Our offensive numbers were fantastic, thanks in part to Crash Parker and Alosina Thompson doing such a fine job running the offense. We have a balanced attack and so many good hitters can step up at different times."
UP NEXT
Saint Mary's will return to Moraga for a 3-match homestand starting with Pacific on October 26 at 7:00 p.m.
