Phase One of Student Athlete Performance Complex Complete

McKeon Pavilion Receives Major Upgrades

MORAGA, Calif. – Following an intense four months of construction over the summer, the initial phase of the Student Athlete Performance Complex was completed right on schedule and ready for the fall athletic season to begin.

The work involved in Phase One primarily focused on McKeon Pavilion, which received major upgrades to the 40-year old structure.

Gael supporters now entering McKeon Pavilion will notice dramatic differences, including the installation of a new state-of-the-art Daktronics video board, spanning 48-feet wide on the east side of the building.

A new Daktronics sound-system was installed to help enhance the sound quality inside the pavilion, including the lobby and restrooms. A new lighting system, floor and branding wrapped up in the fall. A popular addition to the pavilion installed over the summer is a robust wi-fi system, free for fans to use during events.

"Our student-athlete and supporters are always on the top of our minds. We want everyone to have the best experience possible when they step on campus at Saint Mary's College," Director of Athletics Mike Matoso said. "This was the start of many positive moves towards building the complete Student Athlete Performance Complex. Once again, thank you to all of the donors and season ticket holders that have made this project a reality."

The pavilion, built in 1978, received a much-needed seismic retrofitting, including four exterior buttresses and ceiling-to-wall anchors to support the building. One of the first steps completed this summer was a new roof and fire sprinklers inside the pavilion and the front lobby received two new ADA restrooms.

Saint Mary's entrusted the work of Cahill Contractors as the general contractor of the project. Cahill Contractors has been a Bay Area staple, dating back to 1911.
