MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary's women's basketball team will travel to Oregon State this week as they will play the Beavers on Saturday with a tip-off time of 6 p.m.
SCOUTING REPORT
Saint Mary's is off to a perfect start as they won their first two games of the season against Wyoming (90-84) and Washington State (70-64). Emily Codding recorded a career-high in points and rebounds (17 points, seven rebounds) as she led the Gaels in their win against the Cougars. Codding is ranked third in the country and number one in the West Coast Conference in field-goal percentage, shooting .909 (10-for-11) after the season's first two games.
Sydney Raggio finished the game on Sunday with a game-high, five assists and a career-high, nine rebounds. Raggio leads the Gaels' offense overall as she has logged 33 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists so far this season.
Saint Mary's and Washington State played a close game all the way through to the second half until SMC led by as much as 14 points in the third quarter, which is their largest lead of the season. SMC is currently ranked No. 2 in the WCC in scoring as they are averaging 80 points per game. The Gaels currently lead their opponents in five categories: shooting percentage (.583-.418), rebounding (75-53), assists (40-34), turnovers (35-20), and blocks (7-5).
OREGON STATE
Oregon State has won their first two games of the season, defeating Cal Poly 79-54 and Arkansas-Pine Bluff by a season-high, 56 points on Wednesday. The Beavers shot 42 of their points in the paint against Arkansas and shot at a 50 percent clip compared to the Lions' 20.3 percent. Kat Tudor chipped in 18 points during the game and Mikayla Pivec led the team with 14 rebounds.
Tudor is averaging 16.0 points (32 total), 6.0 rebounds and is shooting 55.0 percent from the field through the first two games. Pivec has recorded a team-high, 23 rebounds, seven steals and trails Tudor in average points (13.5). The Beavers have outshot their opponents 49.6 percent to 29 and are averaging 44 rebounds per game compared to their opponents' 31.
Saint Mary's has a 2-4 all-time record against Oregon State and the two teams have not gone head-to-head since 2012.
