VB | O’Sullivan Reaches Career Milestone In Loss to Pepperdine

The Gaels fell in three sets to the Pepperdine Waves on Thursday night as Alex O'Sullivan reached a career milestone during the match.

MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's fell to Pepperdine in three sets on Thursday night but nonetheless had strong performances from Alex O'Sullivan, Lindsey Knudsen and Alosina Thompson.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• SET ONE | Pepperdine got out to an early lead in the first set, with Saint Mary's down 11-4 at the first timeout. Following the game break, the two teams traded points back and forth for the next couple of plays, keeping the score close. The Waves eventually hit their stride and won the opening set 25-14.

• SET TWO | The Gaels and the Waves kept the score of the second period tight, with the two teams being within one or two points of each other in the beginning. Saint Mary's fell behind during the middle of the set, but then went on a five-point streak to bring the set within two points. However, the Gaels were unable to capitalize on the momentum and the Waves took the 25-18 win.

• SET THREE | The Waves took control of the third set rather quickly and pulled out to a seven-point lead by the first timeout. Saint Mary's came back from the break and scored a number of points to keep the match within reach, but could not win back the momentum from Pepperdine. The set ended 25-19 in favor of the Waves, giving Pepperdine the match win.
