MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's fell to Pepperdine in three sets on Thursday night but nonetheless had strong performances from
Alex O'Sullivan,
Lindsey Knudsen and
Alosina Thompson.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• SET ONE | Pepperdine got out to an early lead in the first set, with Saint Mary's down 11-4 at the first timeout. Following the game break, the two teams traded points back and forth for the next couple of plays, keeping the score close. The Waves eventually hit their stride and won the opening set 25-14.
• SET TWO | The Gaels and the Waves kept the score of the second period tight, with the two teams being within one or two points of each other in the beginning. Saint Mary's fell behind during the middle of the set, but then went on a five-point streak to bring the set within two points. However, the Gaels were unable to capitalize on the momentum and the Waves took the 25-18 win.
• SET THREE | The Waves took control of the third set rather quickly and pulled out to a seven-point lead by the first timeout. Saint Mary's came back from the break and scored a number of points to keep the match within reach, but could not win back the momentum from Pepperdine. The set ended 25-19 in favor of the Waves, giving Pepperdine the match win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• O'Sullivan collected five blocks and reached career block 300 during the match. This is her 11th match this season with five or more total blocks in game.
• Senior Lindsey Knudsen (11 kills and 14 digs) and freshman
Alosina Thompson (12 assists and 10 digs) each record a double-double for the Gaels.
• Alexsa "Crash" Parker is now five service aces away from tying the program record (128) after collecting another service ace on Thursday night.
• Saint Mary's eight-game win streak at home was broken after Pepperdine's win and the Gaels are now 8-1 at McKeon.

Saint Mary's will finish up the homestand on Saturday against Loyola Marymount; first serve will be at 1 p.m.
