

VB | Three Gaels Receive All-WCC Honors

2018 All-West Coast Conference Volleyball Team - WCC Release
MORAGA, Calif. –– Three Gaels received All-WCC honors on Monday after collecting their most wins since 2010 and being selected to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012. Senior Lindsey Knudsen was chosen for the All-WCC First Team, senior Sarah Chase was given an honorable mention, and Breyan Ashley was picked for the All-WCC Freshman Team.
In her senior season, Knudsen posted a number of impressive stats including a couple of career milestones: she collected both her 1,000th career kill (2.84 kills per set this season) and her 1,000 career dig (2.66 digs per set) this year. Knudsen is tied for first with the most aces in any four set conference match (6) in the WCC and is second on the team for total service aces (33). She is also in the Gael record books as she is tied for eighth in total number of kills in four sets (21) which she achieved during her first year at SMC. Knudsen set three season-highs in this year's match against San Francisco (Sept. 25) when she collected 26.5 points, six aces, and 20 digs.
During her final season as a Gael, Chase had a strong year putting up a number of big games and numbers. She had her most impressive match of the year against USF on October 18 where she collected season-highs in assists (4), points (21), and blocks (6), and she recorded her season-high in kills (16) in the match against No. 1 BYU. She is ranked ninth in the WCC for service aces in conference matches and averaged 0.30 per set against WCC opponents.
Breyan Ashley has come up big for Saint Mary's in her first season as a Gael and was an important component in many matches. Her best match came against Portland on November 8 where recorded 15 kills, 17 points, one assist, and seven digs which were all season-highs.
