MORAGA, Calif. — The Gaels have picked up their first Power Four transfer of the 2026 transfer portal class, with Caroline Formankova signing on to join Saint Mary's after spending her freshman campaign at Michigan State. Originally from Slany, Czechia, Formankova will join her fellow countrywoman Antonie Kelnarova in Moraga for the 2026 season.
A 6-3 opposite, Formankova played in 26 sets over 15 matches for the Spartans of Michigan State, starting three in her first collegiate season. As a true freshman, she tallied 29 kills and 17 blocks, headlined by a 10 kills match in her fourth career game against Binghamton, and five blocks against SIU-Edwardsville. Formankova has represented her home nation of Czechia in the 2025 U21 World Championship and both the 2024 U20 and U23 European Championships. At the club level prior to her time in East Lansing, Formankova played for VK Dukla Liberec and VK Selmy Brno (with Kelnarova).
Formankova is the second opposite that the Gaels have added from the portal, as she joins Montana State transfer Mackenzie Jackson. Like Jackson, Formankova will have three years of playing eligibility, as the Gaels continue to show a want to grow their program with younger talent that can grow with the program.
