SAN FRANCISCO — Despite scoring a late go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute, Saint Mary's (7-10-2, 2-6-1 WCC) dropped their final match of the season to the Dons with a 2-1 score Saturday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Malia Allison scored her first goal of her career in the 82nd minute to break the scoreless tie and give Saint Mary's a 1-0 lead. Allison was set up on a pass from
Anyssa Dominguez and finished her shot left past the keeper for the score. Dominguez's assist was her fifth of the season and third in as many matches.
Only 28 seconds after Allison's goal, San Francisco (11-7-2, 4-3-2 WCC) responded with a goal of their own as the team drew a call in the Gaels' box and Autumn Smithers scored on a penalty kick to equalize.
Neither team scored for the remainder of regulation and headed for extra time still locked up at 1-all. Smithers would end the match under two minutes into overtime, however, as she connected on a corner kick pass for her second goal of the contest and the game-winner.
Maleah Milner had one of her best matches of the seasons in spite of the loss as the sophomore keeper made 10 saves to keep the Gaels in the match. USF outshot Saint Mary's 24-4 in the game and Milner withstood a 16-shot second half by the Dons to keep the score tied.
THOUGHTS FROM TRAVIS CLARKE
