TEMPE, Ariz. - On the second day of the Kajikawa Classic, Saint Mary's (0-4) fell twice against two tough opponents in Boise State and UTEP.

Game 1
Boise State 13, Saint Mary's 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gaels smacked two homers in their first game Saturday morning but couldn't overcome a potent Bronco lineup in the 13-5 loss.

Freshman Julia McCormack made an impact in her first career start with a three-run bomb to left field for her first career hit. Hailey Sparacino also hit a solo shot in the first inning to tie her home run total from last season at two. Eryn McCoy and Kimiko Zapanta each picked up a stolen base in the loss.

Boise State (3-1) collected 17 hits in the game including four home runs and four doubles. The Broncos big inning came in the second frame when they scored seven runs on seven hits, two of which were three-run home runs.

Game 2
UTEP 7, Saint Mary's 0

HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite drawing eight walks in the game, the Gaels failed to scratch a run across in their second game against the Miners and fell, 7-0.

UTEP (1-1) used the long ball to fuel their offensive effort with a home run in each of the first two innings and took a 3-0 lead after two. In the fourth inning, the Miners tacked on four more runs on three hits and an error to expand their lead to seven.

While SMC had only three hits in the game, the Gaels had plenty of base runners as its batters drew eight walks in the contest. Nikki Alexander and Bailey Lotz each had two walks a piece. In the circle, Eileen Perez threw three shutout innings in relief while also striking out two.
