RIVERSIDE, Calif. - On the final day of the UC Riverside Tournament, Saint Mary's (6-15) avenged Friday's loss to Stony Brook with a 7-1 win over the Seawolves to end their four game skid.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gaels tied their season-high in runs in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader largely from a four-run rally in the bottom of the sixth. Hannah Chew got the scoring started with an RBI double and two batters later, Dylan Linton singled to center to tack on another run. Later in the same inning, SMC executed a double-steal with Kimiko Zapanta on first and Linton on third to score their third run of the frame and Julia McCormack drove in the final run with a bases loaded hit by pitch.

McCormack led the Gaels with three runs batted in during the game, including an RBI double in the first inning to give her squad an early 1-0 advantage. McCormack finished the game 2-for-3, as did Chew who had two doubles.

Zapanta continued her torrid weekend with another three hit game. The freshman also drew a walk, scored three runs, and swiped three bases to catalyze the offense.

Freshman pitcher Eileen Perez threw one of her best games this season, going all seven innings while limiting the Seawolves (4-6) to five hits, one walk, and just one run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Mary's held tight with the Highlanders (15-6) in their last game of the tournament but a fourth inning rally by UCR ultimately decided the game.

The Gaels managed only two hits in the game, courtesy of Zapanta and Eryn McCoy, but picked up seven free passes from Highlander pitching. Zapanta, Nikki Alexander, and Bailey Lotz each reached base twice in the game.

In the fourth inning, UCR sent 14 batters to the plate and scored nine runs to push their lead to 11. All eight Highlander hits were singles and Saint Mary's defense committed zero errors in the tough luck inning.

QUICK FACTS

• Kimiko Zapanta finished the five-game tournament going 11-for-14 with five walks, seven stolen bases, and five runs scored. She leads the team in batting average (.364), on-base percentage (.485), stolen bases (18), and runs scored (12).
• Eileen Perez has thrown four complete games in her eight starts this season.
