WSOC | Seybert Signs to Play Pro in Austria

May 3, 2018

MORAGA, Calif. — Graduating senior Heather Seybert will continue her soccer career overseas for Austrian club SK Sturm Graz FC, it was announced today.

A key piece for the Gaels, Seybert was just one of three Gaels to start all 19 games in 2017. She earned Honorable Mention honors for both All-West Coast Conference and All-Academic awards. Seybert tied for first on the squad with two assists on the year, and placed her name in the record book for most matches played (78).

"Throughout my time at Saint Mary's, I realized really how much I love soccer, and how much it has helped me grow and open future doors for me," said Seybert. "I'm anxious, excited for an extreme culture change."

"Heather [Seybert] is one of, if not the hardest working player I have ever coached," said Saint Mary's head coach Travis Clarke. "She is a great teammate and mentor for the younger players. She is very technical, works hard and has the soccer IQ that will translate to the next level. We are all very happy for her and will be rooting for her as she chases her dreams."

Founded in 1909, SK Sturm Graz FC is currently third in the 10-team Austrian Frauenliga.

"The soccer aspect will be different as well, with it being a different type of soccer from Saint Mary's and the WCC," said Seybert.

"Adjusting and being away from my family for five months will definitely be a challenge, but my family seems more excited than I am. They are really excited and proud, which makes me really happy. I hope I can make everyone proud when I go over to Austria."

Seybert started 38 matches during the last three seasons, with 16 starts in her freshman year.
