Fresno State Invitational Central (Complete Schedule)
MORAGA, Calif. – The Saint Mary's volleyball team faces their second straight three-match road tournament to open the season this week, traveling to the Central Valley to participate in the Fresno State Invitational.
The invitational kicks off Thursday evening with the Gaels facing the host Fresno State Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Saint Mary's will then face Cal Baptist on Friday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. and wrap up the invitational on Saturday morning against American at 10 a.m.
SCOUTING REPORT: Fresno State enters the invitational 4-0, including going 3-0 at the Eastern Illinois Invitational last weekend. Cal Baptist, in its first year at the Division I level, comes into the week with a 4-0 record after winning all of its matches at the Starkvegas Classic at Mississippi State last weekend. American University enters the week with a 2-1 record with a couple road wins last week in the nation's capital.
LAST WEEKEND: The Gaels went 1-2 at the Utah Volleyball Classic, but the highlight of the weekend was a victory over No. 19 Utah on their home court. Saint Mary's played plenty of sets in Utah, losing two four-set matches and winning a five-set match. Seniors Lindsey Knudsen and Lindsey Calvin led the way offensively, each averaging over two kills per set over the three matches.
ALL-TOURNAMENT: Lindsey Knudsen was named to the Utah Volleyball Classic All-Tournament Team after logging a team-high 32 kills over three matches. She also had 23 digs, five blocks, four service aces and three assists on the weekend.
HOME OPENER: Saint Mary's will open its home schedule next weekend against Southern Utah and Hofstra on Friday and Saturday at McKeon Pavilion. Friday's match against Southern Utah will begin at 6 p.m. and Saturday's match against Hofstra will start at 7 p.m.
