

VB | Saint Mary’s Wins Fresno State Invite With 3-0 Record

FRESNO, Calif. – The Saint Mary's volleyball team beat American University 3-1 on Saturday, to finish the Fresno State Invitational with a 3-0 record and take home the title. With the perfect weekend, the Gaels improve to 4-2 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gaels took the first two sets with impressive 25-14 and 25-13 victories. After dropping the third set 21-25, the Gaels finished off the Eagles in the fourth set 25-22.
The overall attack was led for the third straight match by senior Lindsey Calvin. Calvin recorded 14 kills, while hitting .519 and had six digs and four blocks.
ALL-TOURNAMENT
Saint Mary's was led on the All-Tournament team by the Most Valuable Player Lindsey Calvin. Joining Calvin on the team was senior Lindsey Knudsen. Calvin averaged 3.6 kills per set over the tournament and hit an impressive .511 over the three matches with only one hitting error on 84 attempts. Knudsen averaged 3.1 kills per set and 2.9 digs per set over the three matches.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
500 – The Gaels had two players hit .500 or better against American. Calvin hit .519 and Jennifer Laird hit .500 with 10 kills.
10 – Saint Mary's had 10 service aces as a team on Saturday, including three aces by Lindsey Knudsen and two by Kelsey Knudsen.
UP NEXT
Saint Mary's will play in the recently renovated McKeon Pavilion for the first time this season, facing Southern Utah on Friday at 6 p.m. and Hofstra on Saturday at 7 p.m.
