GOLF | Gaels Gear Up for Inverness Next Week

Saint Mary's returns to the course on Monday at the Inverness Intercollegiate as they look to defend their first-place finish from last season.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Returning from a fourth place finish at the Showdown in the Rockies, the Gaels will fly to Ohio this weekend to defend their title at the Inverness Intercollegiate beginning Monday and finishing Tuesday.

LIVE COVERAGE
Live stats to the tournament can be found on the Gaels' schedule page, Golfstat.com, or by clicking HERE. In addition, a portion of the final round on Tuesday can be viewed on ESPN3 with a scheduled airtime of 12:30-3:00 p.m. ET.

THE FIELD
The Inverness Club will host 12 teams for the tournament including Butler, Dayton, Fresno State, LSU, Mercer, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Saint Mary's, St. Bonaventure, Tennessee, Virginia, and the host, Toledo. Ohio State will also send individuals to compete.

Of the competitors, LSU (No. 8), Virginia (No. 41), and Saint Mary's (No. 50) all placed among the top-50 teams in the end of last year's Golfstat rankings.

THE LINEUP
Saint Mary's will utilize the same six golfers from the Showdown in the Rockies with one variation in the lineup. The Gaels will send Ryan Grauman, Blake Hathcoat, Ethan Farnam, Michael Slesinski and Jeffrey Inouye-Wong to compete with Ethan Ashbrook also participating as an individual. Inouye-Wong competed in the Gaels' last tournament as an individual.

THE COURSE
The Inverness Club was founded in 1903, and along with the University of Toledo, served as host for the 2009 NCAA Men's Golf Championships. Inverness will host the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur and 2021 Solheim Cup and has also hosted four U.S. Opens, two U.S. Senior Opens, two PGA Championships and one U.S. Amateur.

The 54-hole tournament will be played on a par-71, 7,172-yard layout that will be the first Intercollegiate since the course's major renovation over the last year. The event will begin with 36 holes on Monday (8:45 a.m. shotgun start) followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday (8:30 a.m. tee times on Holes No. 1 and 10). This year's tournament is the 14th-annual Inverness Intercollegiate.

LAST YEAR AT INVERNESS
Saint Mary's won last year's Inverness Intercollegiate in a rain-shortened tournament. The Gaels shot 10-under as a team and were led by Pavan Sagoo who finished tied for fourth individually.

Returning to the course for the second straight year will be Hathcoat, who tied for 15th in the 2017 tournament, and Slesinski, who competed as an individual.

The Gaels also competed in 2016 at Inverness and finished eighth in the 13-team tournament.

LAST TIME OUT
Saint Mary's completed the Showdown in the Rockies with two players in the top-10 as Ryan Grauman finished third in the tournament with a combined score of 9-under and Ethan Farnam tied for ninth place at 2-under. Both Gaels are new to the team this season.

Saint Mary's finished in fourth place as a team with a third round score of 3-under. The Showdown in the Rockies was hosted by Utah at Huntsman Springs Golf Course in Driggs, Idaho.
