Blake Hathcoat and Ethan Farnam led Saint Mary's on the first day of the Inverness Intercollegiate.
TOLEDO, Ohio — After a rocky first round, Saint Mary's was able to slowly right the ship on Monday and pull closer to the pack in a rain-shortened first day at the Inverness Intercollegiate.
THE LEADERBOARD
Tennessee holds a commanding lead heading into the final day of competition at 3-over and holds a 10-stroke lead over second place Virginia. Rounding out the top-5 are San Francisco at 14-over as well as Butler and Santa Clara tied at fourth at 17-over.
After a tough first round that saw the Gaels sit 11th out of the 12 schools, Saint Mary's shaped up in the second round to move up to ninth before play was stopped due to inclement weather. Leading the Gaels after 30-plus holes are Blake Hathcoat and Ethan Farnam who are tied for 18th at 5-over.
Thomas Welsh from Virginia sits atop the individual leaderboard at 1-under. Four players are tied for second just one stroke behind Welsh.

Play was suspended in the evening due to rain. Every player shot at least 12 holes with the shotgun start before play was stopped. Play will pick up at 8:30 a.m. local time on Tuesday but thunderstorms remain on the forecast.

- Ryan Grauman birdied the 18th hole in the first round to finish 2-over on the back nine.
- Farnam had four birdies in the second round to lead all Gaels, including back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th holes.
- Michael Slesinski and Farnam each shot 1-over in the second round to lead the team.
