Saint Mary's had a solid final round to rise four spots on the leaderboard Tuesday afternoon in Toledo.
TOLEDO, Ohio — In the final day of the Inverness Intercollegiate, Saint Mary's played a strong third round to jump four spots on the leaderboard and finish tied for fifth.
THE LEADERBOARD
Tennessee maintained their big lead to win the tournament by seven strokes with a combined score of 12-over. Trailing behind the Volunteers were Virginia and San Francisco who tied for second at 19-over, followed by Santa Clara at 20-over, and finally Saint Mary's and Butler to round out the top six.
Ethan Farnam posted the best finish for the Gaels in the tournament at 8-over to tie for 17th in the 78-player field. Blake Hathcoat (9-over) and Michael Slesinski (10-over) followed closely behind to bring the Gaels to a fifth place finish.
The third round proved to be the Gaels best of the tournament as they shot just 4-over as a team and had the fourth best day in the 12-team mix. After ending the first round in 11th place, Saint Mary's jumped two spots following the second round before eventually jumping four more on Tuesday to finish strong and tie Butler for fifth at 39-over.
Thomas Walsh from Virginia had an excellent final round at 6-under to take the individual title by nine strokes. Tennessee placed three golfers in the top-6 and were led by Spencer Cross who finished third. WCC-rival San Francisco also placed three golfers in the top-10 as well.

FINAL ROUND HIGHLIGHTS
- Jeffrey Inouye-Wong led the Gaels in the final round with a 1-under score and had five birdies.
- Farnam had two birdies on the front nine and finished even for the round.
- Slesinski knocked in four birdies in the last round including three on the back nine.
- Saint Mary's 4-over combined round score was only three strokes back of round three's leader, Santa Clara.
