Abhishek Bastola earned two singles wins on the opening day of the Aggie Invitational on Friday to lead Saint Mary's.
DAVIS, Calif. — On the first day of the local Aggie Invitational, Saint Mary's earned some big wins from the team's newcomers.
THE DRAW
Saint Mary's picked up three wins in the singles Round of 32 as Matis Bot, Daniel Krutik and Abhishek Bastola advanced to the Round of 16. Krutik and Bastola each had 6-0 sets and advanced in straight sets while Bot battled back from a 4-6 first set to eventually win 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.
Bastola led the Gaels' singles players in the Round of 16 with a win over Pacific's Nathan Hampton, 7-6, 6-0. Another newcomer, Boris Reckow, also earned a victory in the consolation Round of 16 with a 6-3, 6-3 match against Christopher Ma of Pacific.
