After a nearly three month hiatus, Saint Mary's returns to the course for the Arizona Intercollegiate.
TUCSON, Ariz. — Following a successful fall schedule, Saint Mary's golf opens their spring season as they travel to Arizona to compete in the Arizona Intercollegiate from Jan. 28-29 at Sewailo Golf Course.
THE FIELD
In this year's field, 16 teams will be competing with 10 of the programs inside the top-100 Golfstat rankings. Three of the teams are inside the top-50 Golfstat rankings including: Brigham Young (9), Arizona State (11), and Texas A&M (18) in the latest rankings from the fall season.
Along with Saint Mary's (65), the West Coast Conference will also have the Cougars and Loyola Marymount (115) competing in this year's field.
THE COURSE FORMAT
54-holes will be played, with 36 played on Monday, Jan. 28th, and the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
Sewailo GC is configured to play a long par 72 at 7,292 yards.
THE LINEUP
The Gaels lineup will consist of Michael Slesinski, Blake Hathcoat, Ethan Farnam, Ryan Grauman, and Ethan Ashbrook.
Slesinski had a strong fall season as he led the Gaels in both the Alister Mackenzie Invitational and the Visit Stockton Pacific Invite and placed in the top-20 in both tournaments. The redshirt-sophomore will look to continue being a key asset for the team as they begin their spring season.
Freshman Ryan Grauman has also helped lead the Gaels' efforts throughout the fall as he averaged 72.33 in fifteen rounds and placed third in his first collegiate tournament at the Showdown in the Rockies in Idaho.
ARIZONA MEDALIST
The Gaels will also look to compete in the Arizona Medalist on a separate course (Randolph Park) that is happening during the same time as the tournament. SMC will have three individuals including Dylan Vanderveer, Evan Peterson, and Jeffrey Inouye-Wong playing in this event.
