XC | Gaels Complete West Coast Conference Championship

VAN NUYS, Calif. – The Gaels finished their last team event prior to NCAA competition on Friday as the men and women's teams competed at the West Coast Conference Championship.
The Saint Mary's women were able to secure eighth place at the Championships while three Gaels finished within the top 35. Freshman Rayna Stanziano recorded the fastest time for SMC as she completed the 6K with a time of 21:30.9 which was good enough for 18th place. Sophomore Kaela Dishion was the second place finisher for Saint Mary's as she recorded a time of 21:43.8 to secure 25th place in the race. In third place for the Gaels was junior Abigayle Mitchell who came in 34th with a race time of 21:58.2. The BYU women's team ended in first place and the top three spots in the race went to the Cougars.

The SMC men's team placed ninth overall during the meet while sophomore Anthony Vazquez was the top performer for the Gaels. Vazquez finished the 8K with a race time of 25:36.7 which secured him 47th place in the race. Freshman Lucas Chung finished shortly after with a 25:53.8 finish time and came in 53rd place. In third place for Saint Mary's was sophomore Derek D'Amelia who ended with a time of 26:15.5 to earn 63rd place. BYU also took first place on the men's side as well as the top three finishes in the race.

As team conference competition has finished, the Gaels await news regarding the NCAA West Preliminaries to take place on November 15 in Colfax, Washington.
