MBB | Gaels Burn Sun Devils in 40-Point Victory

PHOENIX Jordan Ford helped lead Saint Mary's to their biggest win over a Division I opponent this year as the Gaels recorded a 40-point victory over Arizona State on Wednesday in Talking Stick Resort Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Ford was next to unguardable all night as he totaled 34 points, one shy of tying his career-high, while knocking down seven threes and finishing 12-for-17 from the field. The senior guard only played 29 minutes despite his high scoring totals as the Gaels were up big for the majority of the game.

Malik Fitts tallied 20 points and grabbed eight boards to help the team's high-scoring cause and Tanner Krebs chipped in 11 while sinking three of his seven triples. Tommy Kuhse, who is from nearby Mesa, Ariz., tied his season-high with eight assists.

Saint Mary's went on a 20-0 run early in the half that put them up 29-7 with just over nine minutes to play. From that point on, the Gaels were in firm control and never led by fewer than 20 for the remainder of the contest.

The Gaels did everything right in the first half and took a 51-19 lead into the locker room. Not only did Saint Mary's shoot 63 percent from the field with nine made threes, they also held
Arizona State to make just 22 percent of their tries and go 1-of-13 from deep.

The second half was more of the same for SMC's offense as they racked up 45 second-half points and were 7-for-12 from 3-point range.

Ford was scalding early on, making his first eight attempts from the field including five three-pointers. He ended up with 22 points at the break and also had four rebounds.

Alonzo Verge Jr. was a standout for the Sun Devils, scoring 43 points while making 18 of his 29 tries. The guard had 30 of his team's 37 points in the final half.

Remy Martin, who came into the game averaging over 20 points for ASU, was held scoreless in the game. He was 0-for-7 from the field in 28 minutes.
