MBB | Program Great Jock Landale Pops for 26 pts. In Atlanta Hawks Debut
2/6/2026 2:48:00 PM | Men's Basketball
MORAGA, Calif. - Saint Mary's men's basketball alumnus Jock Landale was part of another hectic NBA Trade Deadline Thursday afternoon as he got word of being moved in a three-team deal to the Atlanta Hawks for his fifth NBA team since signing with the San Antonio Spurs back in 2021. Landale was originally dealt to the Utah Jazz in the blockbuster deal with All-Star teammate Jaren Jackson Jr. but Utah then later sent Landale to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team trade with the Cavaliers.
With the volatility of the NBA Trade Deadline year after year, many players choose not to suit up for the ensuing game with their new clubs. Despite the late move, Landale not only dressed but started for the Atlanta Hawks Thursday night and dropped a double-double with 26 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and four blocks while shooting 71% from the field. Landale became just the fourth player in NBA history to go for 25 points, 10 boards and shoot over 70% from the field in a team debut. He also joined Atlanta Hawks great Glenn Robinson as the only two players in franchise history to record 25+ points, 10+ rebounds and 5+ assists in their debut.
Jock talked postgame about the moments after being traded and how he managed to hop in a car and drive nearly six hours to Atlanta to give himself enough time to prepare and play for the Hawks Thursday night.
Landale was a factor on both ends of the floor all night and had his biggest moment of his early Hawks career late in the fourth quarter, hitting a corner three ball to put Atlanta up 117-116 with 45 seconds remaining. The Jazz hit a three two possessions later to tie the game at 119 but Nickeil Alexander-Walker would rattle in a turnaround jumper with 1.3 seconds remaining to win it 121-119 for the Hawks.
Prior to the trade, Landale was having a nice year with the Memphis Grizzlies playing in 45 games averaging 11.3 points and 6.5 rebounds on 51% shooting. He'll look to be a key piece to a Hawks team that sits just one game under .500 and in ninth place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Atlanta Hawks host the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday, February 7th at 4:30 PM pacific time. Head to nba.com/hawks/schedule for the remaining Hawks schedule and to follow Landale for the rest of the 2026 NBA season.

"I managed to go home to the family for 15-20 minutes and take my son for a walk. They offered to fly me in the next morning but I said if I was looking to play that next night, I wanted to get there as soon as possible. So I loaded up the truck and hit the road for five and a half hours, so yeah it's been a big couple of days which has been fun" (Landale via Hawks Media).
