WBB | Gaels Beat Dons for 4th Straight Win

MORAGA, Calif.  Saint Mary's collected their fourth-consecutive win on Saturday afternoon after picking up a 25-point victory over the San Francisco Dons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • QUARTER 1 |  Sydney Raggio got the game going for the Gaels as she collected the first layup of the contest. Just over two minutes into the game, the Gaels held the Dons to a score of 6-0, which forced them to call a timeout. USF did not score their first points until they were three minutes into the game. Claire Ferguson picked up her first layup in the first half of the contest to improve the Gaels' shooting to 63 percent. Carly Turner and Tyra Moe each recorded a bucket from beyond-the-arc, which were the only three-pointers of the period. Saint Mary's went on their biggest run of the quarter as they went 7-0 with just over a minute of play left. Jasmine Forcadilla scored a layup with less than two seconds left in the period to finish the quarter with a 27-14 lead over the Dons.
 
  • QUARTER 2 | After a strong defensive first quarter, USF began the second period with a pair of free-throws to shorten their deficit to just nine points, however, Raggio quickly came back to improve the Gaels' lead by chipping in four more points. Both teams continued to exchange buckets while Saint Mary's led by as much as 15-points for a majority of the period. Raggio continued to perform for the Gaels after collecting six points in the first half of the second to improve the Saint Mary's lead to 39-26. Ferguson chipped in two back-to-back layups, which put the Gaels on a 4-0 run over the Dons. Forcadilla scored a buzzer-beater layup to improve the Gaels' to a 19-point lead and ended the half with a score of 49-30.
 
  • QUARTER 3 | Forcadilla got the second half started for the Gaels after making a free-throw within the first minute of play. Sam Simons scored the first layup in the period to improve the Gaels to a 21-point lead. Codding collected her first points of the game as she scored the third three-pointer for Saint Mary's. The Gaels were able to hold their big lead throughout the period as Forcadilla and Raggio consistently added points to the board. Within the third quarter, three Gaels were in double-digits as Raggio went into the fourth quarter with 18 points. After recording 23 points during the quarter, Saint Mary's ended the period with a 26-point lead atop USF.
 
  • QUARTER 4 | Holland scored the first three-pointer of the fourth within just the first 30 seconds of the period. Tyra Moe collected a career-high, eight points during the quarter as she continued to add points to the board throughout the contest while also grabbing four rebounds. Raggio and Turner came together for a flurry of points to improve the Gaels' lead by 26 points. With just three minutes left in the matchup, Brianna Simonich chipped in her first layup of the contest to put Saint Mary's on a 8-0 run. The Gaels remained in control through the remainder of the game and eventually recorded the 88-63 victory.
