
GOLF | Gaels Remain Steady on Day 2 in Hawaii

Saint Mary's remains within striking distance of a top spot heading into the final round at the John Burns Intercollegiate.
LIHUE, Hawaii — No. 48 Saint Mary's shot 1-under in the middle round of the John Burns Intercollegiate on Friday to stick closely to the top third of the 20-team field.
THE LEADERBOARD
Michael Slesinski and Blake Hathcoat both shot 1-under for the day to lead the Gaels. Slesinski remains in the top-15 of the field at tied for 13th with a 4-under score while Hathcoat is just one stroke back and tied for 19th.
The Gaels slipped from fourth to seventh in the middle round but remain in the hunt for a top finish. Saint Mary's is just four strokes back of a share of fourth and seven strokes back of third.
No. 11 Arizona State surged to the top of the leaderboard with a strong 12-under round on Friday. No. 2 Duke also jumped to the runner-up spot with a 13-under score, which was the low score of the day. No. 33 UNLV had the biggest jump in the second round as they ascended eight spots on the rankings to now sit tied for fourth.
Rhett Rasmussen of BYU leads the individual leaderboard heading into the final round at 8-under. Zach Smith from UC Santa Barbara and UTEP's Aaron Terrazas are each one stroke back of the lead.
Ethan Ashbrook was even on the day to remain at 1-under while Ethan Farnam improved by four strokes from his opening round to shoot 1-over. Ryan Grauman rounded out the Gaels' rotation with a 3-over total.
