HONOLULU – The Gaels continued with the final day of the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic on Sunday with a pair of matchups against No. 4 Pepperdine and No. 11 Stanford. After a well-fought number of sets against Pepperdine, Saint Mary's went on to sweep the Cardinal 5-0.

SMC played a dominant day of volleyball on Sunday after getting close to overtaking Pepperdine in multiple sets. But the Gaels hit their stride in their matchup against Stanford as seniors Lindsey Knudsen and Sarah Chase (21-13, 21-17) and juniors Alexsa "Crash" Parker and Sienna Young (22-20, 21-16) both took down Stanford in only two sets each. Freshman Selbie Christensen and Chandler Cowell picked up their second win as a collegiate pair after three sets (21-11, 13-21, 15-12).

"We beat Stanford 5-0 and it is always a big deal to beat Stanford in anything," said head coach Rob Browning.

"At this point in the season the thing you would hope for more than anything else is to see improvement from your team throughout the tournament. There's no question that we achieved that goal."

"All 12 of our players were challenged and they stepped up to make improvements in their game and compete at a higher level. We were competitive in many individual matches and for sure played our best against Stanford."

"I think everyone feels good about the direction we are heading. We need to combine that with a strong desire to keep working hard and make significant improvement before our next match against San Francisco."
