MORAGA, Calif. — The Gaels will play two games in a two-day stretch this week as they travel to San Jose State tomorrow before hosting UC Davis on Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT
After having their match against Hawaii cancelled due to rain, Saint Mary's (1-7) took the court against No. 32 USC but fell 4-0 on the Women of Troy's home courts.
USC (8-2) earned the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Mariia Kozyreva and
Hind Abdelouahid put up a fight on court one but the match was called early.
Kozyreva nearly picked up a victory over No. 34 Salma Ewing in singles play but the match was called with a 6-2, 5-4 advantage for the Gaels' sophomore. Jordan Harris was also leading in her match before play ended prematurely. The Women of Troy clinched the victory with wins on courts two, three, and four.
ABOUT SAN JOSE STATE
The Spartans are 4-3 this year but are in the midst of a three-game losing streak. Their most recent match was a 4-2 loss to Gaels' fellow WCC member, Pacific.
Klara Milojkovic and Alba Pedrero Galindo have been SJSU's top two singles players this spring with records of 5-1 and 5-2, respectively. The freshman Pedrero Galindo has been surging of late and has won four straight matches in a row.
Laura Malsert and Savannah Sendar form the Spartans' top doubles tandem and are 2-1 this season. As a team, San Jose State is 8-10 in doubles play this spring.
ABOUT UC DAVIS
The Aggies are 3-7 and have lost their last two matches. Saturday's match will be a rescheduled meeting after the two teams were supposed to meet in Davis last week but were unable to play due to inclement weather.
Nikita Pradeep is UC Davis' top singles player and has dominated with a 7-2 record from that spot in dual action. Pradeep has over a third of the team's 19 singles wins from this spring. Sara Tsukamoto has played every match at the No. 2 slot and is 4-5 this year.
The Aggies are an even 10-10 this spring on the doubles courts and the tandem of Pradeep and Shirley Hall has been the team's best duo with a 4-3 record. All seven match results for the pair have come on Court 2.
