SB | Gaels Play Two Games Against Stanford This Week

Saint Mary's will look to play a doubleheader at Stanford on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. start time.

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's (7-21) will look to play just two games this week as they will travel to Stanford on Wednesday for a doubleheader with the first game beginning at 4 p.m.

ABOUT STANFORD
The Stanford Cardinal are coming off their first two wins in the Pacific-12 Conference to improve their overall record to 21-4 and are now 2-0 in the conference. In their last contest against Cal, the Cardinal narrowly defeated the Bears in a 11-10 decision as they clinched a comeback victory after scoring four runs in the seventh inning.

Infielder Teaghan Cowles has led the Cardinal so far this season as she has collected 32 hits with a .376 batting average. The junior holds a .442 on-base percentage and has scored 23 runs which is the most on the team. Only two other players own a batting average above .300 including outfielder Alyssa Horeczko who has a .323 batting average and is also 9-for-9 on stolen bases.

Carolyn Lee leads the Cardinal in the circle as she holds a 7-2 record with a 1.58 ERA which is good for fifth in the conference. In 75.1 innings pitched, the senior has recorded 62 shutouts and has only allowed 13 walks.

As a team, the Cardinal rank sixth in the PAC-12 with a team batting average of .284 and a .383 on-base percentage. Stanford will play the third game of the Cal series today before facing off against Saint Mary's on Wednesday.

LAST TIME OUT
The Gaels took on three different teams in six games last week and picked up their lone win of the week in the first game of the doubleheader against Marist. In the matchup, Saint Mary's defeated the Red Foxes 3-1 after Julia McCormack put up a three-run homerun to take the win. Eileen Perez led the Gaels in the circle after tying her season high in strikeouts with eight and only allowing four hits during the game.
