MTEN | Gaels Drop Match to Zags on Senior Day

Saint Mary's fell short in their final match of the season, 4-1.

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's celebrated Senior Day on Saturday in their final match of the season against Gonzaga but didn't manage to celebrate a win as they fell, 4-1. With the loss, the Gaels moved to 5-15 and 3-6 in conference play to finish 7th in the WCC standings.

Saint Mary's will not compete in the WCC Championships in two weeks as only the top-6 teams in the conference qualify.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gaels started off strong as they claimed the doubles point from the Zags. James Watt and Boris Reckow won in the team's No. 1 slot 6-4 while Damon Kesaris and Matis Bot cemented the point in a close 7-5 battle on Court 2.

Saint Mary's unfortunately could not keep the momentum rolling in singles play however as Gonzaga won four straight matches to take the contest. The Zags picked up wins in the No. 1, 2, 4, and 5 spots.

Abhishek Bastola led his opponent 3-0 in the third set on Court 3 before his match was called and Daniel Krutik was down just one game in the No. 6 slot as his match also went unfinished.

Saint Mary's recognized two seniors as they played their final matches on Saturday: Daniel Krutik and Brian Lee. Both Gaels had played all four years in Moraga.
