Saint Mary's is set to participate in their fifth consecutive NCAA Regionals among a talent-loaded field in Austin.
MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's will be departing this week for their fifth straight NCAA Regionals appearance and will head to Austin, Texas to participate in the postseason event. The Gaels will compete with 13 other teams at the tournament for five spots in the NCAA Championship in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

THE FIELD
Competing alongside Saint Mary's will be the host No. 7 Texas, No. 10 USC, No. 16 Pepperdine, No. 21 Clemson, No. 29 TCU, No. 33 Arkansas, No. 41 Iowa, No. 46 Marquette, San Jose State, Sam Houston State, UMKC, Prairie View A&M, and Army. The Gaels were chosen as the No. 10 seed out of the 14 team field.
Saint Mary's is ranked No. 55 in the country by Golfstat.com.
THE LINEUP
Saint Mary's will be utilizing the same lineup they have used all season in Blake Hathcoat, Michael Slesinski, Ethan Farnam, Ryan Grauman, and Ethan Ashbrook. Evan Peterson will also be traveling with the team as an alternate.
LAST TIME OUT
Saint Mary's bounced back from a tough second round to finish the WCC Championship with a 4-under day and claim third place in the conference tournament. With the bronze, the Gaels have finished third or better at the last five WCC Championships.
Ethan Farnam and Ethan Ashbrook led the charge as each tied for eighth in the field and posted team-best 2-under combined scores. As a team, Saint Mary's shot 5-under in the first round, 5-over in the second round, and 4-under in the final round to wrap up play 4-under.
No. 18 Pepperdine claimed their 20th WCC Title with a final score of 13-under. The Waves shot 4-under on the lst day and were led by RJ Manke, who won the medalist title at 6-under. San Francisco finished second at 10-under and SMC ended up one stroke ahead of No. 30 BYU who ended up fourth.
GAELS AT THE NCAA REGIONALS
Saint Mary's will be making their ninth total trip to the NCAA Regionals this week, all of which came come during head coach Scott Hardy's tenure. The Gaels have previously made the tournament in 2005, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
At last year's Regional in Florida, the Gaels finished 11th out of 14 teams. Blake Hathcoat and Michael Slesinski both played in the tournament and finished 2-over and 4-over, respectively.
HATHCOAT SUCCEEDS ON AND OFF COURSE
Last week, junior Blake Hathcoat was named not only First Team All-WCC but also received All-Academic recognition from the conference as well. Hathcoat leads the team in stroke average and top-5 finishes this year and posted a 3.56 GPA in the classroom.
The junior was just one of three golfers in the conference who were named to both teams.
