

MBB | Gael Alumni Set to Return to TBT

Saint Mary's men's basketball alumni will play in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) this summer for a chance at a $2 million prize.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Basketball Tournament (TBT) – the $2 million, summer basketball event broadcast live on ESPN networks – revealed today that Gael Force, the Saint Mary's College alumni team, has gained entry into this year's 64 team field.
The team is organized by general manager and head coach Dan Shell, who served as an assistant coach at Saint Mary's from 2001-08 . Their roster includes:
● E.J. Rowland (2003-05)
● Ian O'Leary (2005-09)
● Diamon Simpson (2005-09)
● Omar Samhan (2006-10)
● Mickey McConnell (2007-11)
● Rob Jones (2010-12)
● Stephen Holt (2010-14)
● Calvin Hermanson (2014-18)
● Joe Rahon (2015-17)
● Jordan Hunter (2015-19)
Gael Force will be competing in TBT's Memphis Regional at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse from July 19-21. The region is hosted by Bluff City (Memphis alumni) and also features Team Arkansas (Arkansas alumni), who are being coached by Washington Wizards forward Bobby Portis.
The gang of SMC alums, who received the top seed in Wichita after a run to the TBT Super 16 in 2018, will take on the eighth-seeded Jackson TN Underdawgs in their first-round matchup at 1:50 p.m. PST on Friday, July 19 (game time subject to change) live on WatchESPN. If they were to advance, Gael Force would face the winner of Broad Street Brawlers and Southern Gentlemen on Saturday, July 20 at 3 p.m. PST on WatchESPN.
The championship game of the Memphis Regional will be held on Sunday, July 21 at 1 p.m. PST and also can be seen on WatchESPN. The winner of that game will receive a cash prize equivalent to 25% of ticket sales in the region and advance to Chicago for Championship Week August 1-6 to compete for $2 million. Additional Memphis Regional games can also be seen on WatchESPN.
