MTEN | Reckow Leads Gaels' Efforts at Aggie Invite

Boris Reckow earned three of SMC's wins during the first day at the Aggie Invitational.

DAVIS, Calif. — Saint Mary's competed in 17 matches during a busy first day at the Aggie Invitational and won over half of them in their first team tournament of the year.

Boris Reckow led the Gaels by going 3-0 on the day including two singles wins. Reckow cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 victory in his first match before pulling off a comeback win 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 against Daniel Landa from UC Davis. The sophomore also teamed up with Abhishek Bastola for an 8-6 win over Santa Clara in doubles.

Andy Watterson and Jackson Hawk both earned wins in singles before falling in the second round. Watterson defeated Portland's Arjun Mariyappa in three sets while Hawk took down Mitchell Davis from UC Davis.

Matis Bot, Karlo Divkovic and Akbarmirzo Mamirov bounced back from dropping their first singles match with wins in the consolation bracket.

Bot and Divkovic also picked up the Gaels' other win in doubles by edging out Portland's tandem of Pankin/Yoshida 8-7.

Saint Mary's returns to the courts tomorrow morning for the second day of play. The live tournament link can be followed here.
