WSOC | Gaels End Non-Conference Play With Win Over Aggies

Saint Mary's defeated UC Davis 1-0 on the road Friday night to head into WCC action riding a three-game win streak.

DAVIS, Calif. — Saint Mary's (6-4) closed out their non-conference slate on a high note as they picked up a 1-0 win over UC Davis (5-4) on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Jaylen Crim scored the lone goal of the match for the Gaels in the 29th minute. Vanessa Gaitan set up Crim who rolled her shot past the Aggies' keeper for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The senior has now notched a point in seven of the Gaels' 10 contests this year. Crim entered Friday's match sixth in the WCC in points and now has a career-high 13 on the season.

The Gaels' win was their first road victory of the year. On the flip side of the coin, Saint Mary's has been unbeatable in Moraga with a perfect 5-0 record.

SMC's offense outshot UC Davis 19-13 in the match, marking the fifth consecutive game that's happened and eighth time overall. Impressively, eight shots by the Gaels came on goal forcing the Aggies' goalkeepers to make seven total saves.

Maleah Milner earned her fourth clean sheet of the season by making three saves in net.

THOUGHTS FROM TRAVIS CLARKE
  • "We played well today. We held the ball well and attacked the wide spaces. We should have had a few more goals in this one so we need to work on the final third this week during training."
  • "Davis worked hard and did well to create a few chances on set plays at the end of the game. We focus on defending corners a lot and today we did a good job closing the game out."
UP NEXT: WCC PLAY
