GOLF | Gaels Conclude Arizona Intercollegiate with 7th Place Finish

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Gaels closed out the Arizona Intercollegiate on Tuesday and finished seventh out of the competitive 14-team field. Saint Mary's surpassed No. 44 Long Beach State in the tournament by two strokes.
THE LEADERBOARD
Saint Mary's shot 6-over in the final round to end play at 12-over overall. No. 11 Arizona took the team title at 21-under and were trailed by No. 12 Baylor (12-under) and No. 17 Washington (even) to round out the top three.
Blake Hathcoat led the team with a 1-under final round to wrap up the event 2-under and tie for ninth in the 84-man field. Michael Slesinski came in t-19th at 2-over and was followed by Ethan Farnam at 4-over, Evan Peterson at 12-over, and Ash Hakim at 16-over.
Dylan VanderVeer, who was competing as an individual, had a solid final round with an even score to end tied for 31st.
Washington's Henry Lee took medalist honors after shooting 5-under on Tuesday to wrap up play 10-under. Arizona's Trevor Werbylo also was 10-under to come in second. Out of the 84 competitors, only 14 shot even or better across the three rounds as Sewailo Golf Club proved to be a tough challenge.

FINAL ROUND HIGHLIGHTS
Saint Mary's will have a few weeks off before returning to play on Feb. 20 at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Hawai'i.

- VanderVeer shot 3-under on the front 9 with no bogeys.
- Four Gaels parred the 638 yard par 5 on hole 10.
- Hathcoat was fifth in the tournament with 15 total birdies.
Saint Mary's will have a few weeks off before returning to play on Feb. 20 at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Hawai'i.
