WBB | Wedin Scores 14 in Loss to Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. — Saint Mary's (0-3) battled back in the second half and outscored Arizona State (3-0) in the final 20 minutes but came up short with a final score of 62-53.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Taycee Wedin and Madeline Holland paced the offense with 14 points each. The duo combined to shoot 10-of-16 from the floor and 4-of-6 from 3-point land. Amy West added nine points and grabbed five rebounds.
The Gaels shot the ball exceptionally well in the game, 52 percent overall, but were victimized by 23 turnovers that led to 25 Arizona State points. The Sun Devils only shot 41 percent in the contest but took 21 more shots than Saint Mary's.
The game was within two possessions for the entire first quarter until an ASU three just before the buzzer put the home team up by nine. Arizona State jumped ahead by as much as 16 in the second quarter but the Gaels chipped away at the lead to bring it to single digits once again halfway through the third.
Saint Mary's outscored Arizona State 14-9 in the final period and kept things within reach but couldn't manage to close the lead to less than eight before the final horn sounded. The Sun Devils scored just 21 points in the final half which equaled their total from the first quarter.
