SB | Gaels Split Day 2 of Bulldog Classic

FRESNO, Calif. — Saint Mary's bats came alive on the second day of the Bulldog Classic as they split their two games with Cal Poly and California.

Game 1
Saint Mary's 6, Cal Poly 3

The Gaels erupted for a four-run fourth inning to pull ahead of Cal Poly and clinch their second win of the season.

Julia McCormack got SMC on the board in the top of the first with a solo shot, her second of the season. After the Mustangs tied up the score in the bottom of the frame, Indya Smith knocked in another run with an RBI single in the second.

Kenedi Lopes got in on the action with an RBI single to right field in the fourth and two more Gaels would come around on a throwing error. The team's fourth and final run of the inning came courtesy of a Jayda Alaan single to chase home Alex Casas

Vanessa Richie started in the circle for the Gaels and struck out three batters over three innings. Sofia Earle got the win in relief with two innings pitched.

Saint Mary's had 11 hits in the win including the homer from McCormack and a double from Casas. SMC only struck out twice in the game as well.

Game 2
California 5, Saint Mary's 2

A tough start to the game would end up being the difference maker in the team's afternoon contest again Cal.

The Bears scored three runs before an out was recorded to begin the game. Marissa Woolsey entered in relief however and was able to get three immediate outs to avoid any further damage.

The Gaels responded with two runs of their own in the third. Nikki Alexander drove in a run with a single to left field and put runners on first and second with one out. Halle Sullivan was the team's next batter and hit a shot to the outfield but unfortunately for the Gaels, Cal was able to turn a double play as a run scored to end the frame.

After nearly getting no-hit by Chloe Romero yesterday, the Gaels fared much better against the junior pitcher on Saturday as they strung together eight hits and a walk. Alexander, Casas, and Maddie Gallagher all went 2-for-3 in the game.
