SB | Gaels Finish Weekend With Win over Fordham

FRESNO, Calif. — Saint Mary's (3-8) managed to grind out a win over Fordham in the morning to split their games on the final day of the Bulldog Classic.

Game 1
Saint Mary's 2, Fordham 1

Saint Mary's came out on top in a tight pitching battle to open Sunday's contests. Sofia Earle earned her second win of the year by going four shutout innings as she struck out four and only allowed three hits. Vanessa Richie pitched the final 2.2 innings and struck out three to preserve the win.

The Gaels received a fortunate bounce in the second inning with two runs scored on an error. Maddie Gallagher singled and Hannah Chew followed with a double to put two runners in scoring position. Kenedi Lopes hit a ball to the shortstop which was misplayed and allowed both runners to score which would ultimately prove to be the winning runs.

SMC had four hits in the game compared to seven for Fordham.

Game 2
Fresno State 10, Saint Mary's 0 (6)

The Bulldogs bats couldn't be stopped in the Gaels' final game of the tournament as they put up 10 runs in six innings to take the contest.

Fresno State's first baseman Alesia Denby was scalding hot at the plate as she had two triples and a grand slam for an eight RBI game. Denby's slam in the sixth would end the game prematurely.

Saint Mary's didn't record a hit in the game but they did draw four walks and a hit by pitch. Three walks came in the first inning to load the bases with two outs but a flyout would end the Gaels' best scoring opportunity of the game.

Hailey Dolcini got the win for Fresno State with five no-hit innings.
