
GOLF | Slesinski in Control After Two Rounds at John Burns

LIHUE, Hawaii — Saint Mary's remained tied for eighth place after Friday's round at Wailua Golf Course and will head into the final day of the John Burns Intercollegiate within reach of a top-5 finish.
THE LEADERBOARD
The Gaels are tied for eighth along with Cal State Fullerton and No. 28 California at 11-over. SMC posted a 6-over score on Friday, just one shot off of their total from yesterday. No. 10 Texas A&M leads the field at 7-under and is trailed by No. 15 BYU (5-under) and No. 40 New Mexico (3-under).
Michael Slesinski is the team's top performer thus far and is tied for 12th after 36 holes. Slesinski was even on the day and shot 2-under on the front 9.
Blake Hathcoat and Ethan Farnam are both t-37th with 3-over totals entering Saturday. Dylan VanderVeer is 8-over and Ash Hakim is at 11-over.
Slesinski trails the tournament leaders, four different players, by only three strokes. Only 22 competitors in the 122-man field are below par after two rounds. New Mexico has two players, Ignacio Arcaya and Sam Choi, who are tied for first at 4-under.
