SB | Saint Mary's Defeats Aggies in 10-2 Victory

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — After a huge fourth inning, Saint Mary's (5-12) secured a 10-2 victory over Utah State on Friday on the first day of the UC Davis Capital Classic Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Utah State added their first run to the board in the bottom of the second to take an early 1-0 lead over Saint Mary's. The Gaels responded with a huge fourth inning as they put up seven runs to take a six run lead over the Aggies.

Alex Casas got the scoring started for Saint Mary's when she nailed a two run double to send home Halle Sullivan and Kenedi Lopes before Indya Smith tacked on the third run off a wild pitch. Later in the same inning, Jayda Alaan would then knock down an RBI single to score Casas. Maddie Gallagher closed out the inning with a three run home run to secure the 7-1 lead over Utah State. The homer for Gallagher is her third of the season.

SMC would then add two more runs in the top of the fifth as Alaan drilled a two run single to bring home Casas and Lopes. Utah State managed to put up an additional run in the bottom of the fifth but Saint Mary's went on to tally their 10th run of the contest in the sixth when Sullivan collected an RBI double to bring home Bry Waters to secure the final run.

Saint Mary's totaled 11 hits during the contest as Alaan and Gallagher each went 3-for-4 to lead the team with three RBI's a piece. Sullivan recorded two hits with one RBI while three other Gaels also picked up a hit throughout the game. SMC had six walks in the contest while Casas also tallied two of SMC's three stolen bases.

In the circle, Kayla Scott pitched in five innings and recorded two strikeouts while only allowing one walk. Eryn McCoy entered the game in the sixth to pitch in relief.
