WTEN | Gaels Earn First Win of Season in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Saint Mary's (1-2) picked up their first win of the spring on Tuesday as they handily defeated the Hornets (0-5) on the road with a 4-0 decision.

In doubles action, Lene Mari Hovda and Danielle McIntyre teamed up on Court 3 for a big 6-1 win to get the Gaels started. Chloe Goyette and Jordan Harris were paired up as the No. 1 seed and also picked up an impressive 6-2 victory against Dodd/Nielsen to clinch the doubles point.

Mariia Kozyreva and Aubane Ville led 5-3 in their doubles match before it was called.

Singles play was more of the same for Saint Mary's as they earned three straight-set matches to take the win over Sac State. Liesl Pieters won 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 6 slot, Kozyreva dropped only one point in a 6-1, 6-0 match against the Hornets' top player, and Harris finished the job with a 6-2, 6-2 win on Court 2.

The Gaels were up in all three other matches before they went unfinished. Saint Mary's had freshmen Hovda and Gabriela Tevez on Courts 3 and 5, respectively, and the senior McIntyre as the No. 4 seed.

The Gaels will head north once again on Thursday to square off with UC Davis for their fourth consecutive road match this spring. First serve is currently set for 1:30 p.m.
