BVB | Saint Mary's To Face Santa Clara and Pacific This Week

MORAGA, Calif. – The Gaels will look to build off the success of last weekend as they have mid-week matches against Santa Clara and Pacific.

SCOUTING REPORT
Saint Mary's had a dominant weekend at the WCC/Big West Challenge in Santa Cruz as they won all three of their matches. The Gaels began the day by sweeping Sacramento State before beating CSU Bakersfield 4-1 and then defeating CSUN 3-2. In the sweep of the Hornets, SMC did not allow their opponents to win a single set. Out of the 42 sets that Saint Mary's participated in across the three matches, they only lost seven sets. Gael pairs Alexsa "Crash" Parker and Selbie Christensen as well as Elena Baka and Chandler Cowell were undefeated on Saturday as neither pair lost to their opponent. Parker and Christensen only lost one set all day. Saturday's strong performance snapped a four-match losing streak for the Gaels.

SANTA CLARA
The Broncos are 3-10 overall this season as they opened the year with a nine-match losing streak. The Broncos also participated in the WCC/Big West Challenge over the weekend and won two of three matches on Saturday. The team defeated Cal State Bakersfield (3-2) and Sacramento State (4-1) but were swept by CSUN (5-0). Santa Clara will host the Gaels for their second and final home match of the season as they won their only other home contest against Pacific (3-2) earlier last week. The Gaels and the Broncos faced off four times last season with SMC claiming the win every time, including three sweeps. Saint Mary's has not lost to Santa Clara since April 2015.

PACIFIC
The Tigers have a 1-5 record this year as they have not won a match since their season opening contest. Pacific swept San Joaquin Delta College to begin the year, but have yet to win a match since. The Tigers hosted the UOP Tournament during the final weekend of February but they lost both matches to Sacramento State and San Jose State. They then participated in the Cal Tournament where they fell to No. 19 Arizona State and No. 11 Cal. Most recently, the Tigers fell 3-2 against the Santa Clara Broncos. Pacific will host Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday before traveling to Moraga for their match against SMC. The Gaels and the Tigers met twice during the 2019 season and Saint Mary's swept Pacific on both occasions.
