MORAGA, Calif. — Who knew basketball was an outdoor sport? It probably felt like that a lot when playing the Gaels during the 2019-20 season, as it was constantly raining – raining down threes, that is. The women's basketball program set the college's record for most three pointers taken and made in a single season, and a large part of that was the performance of sharp-shooting guard
Taycee Wedin, who set the WCC record for most three-pointers made in a single season. Today, we take a closer look at some of the moments that stand out during Wedin's long-range run to success.
BEYOND THE ARC/NUMBERS
First 3FG Made: Nov. 5 at Nevada, with 8 seconds remaining in regulation
Last 3FG Made: Mar. 6 vs. Pepperdine, with 2:17 remaining in regulation
Games with at least 3 Made 3FG: 23 (out of 31 games)
Games without a Made 3FG: 2 (Nov. 29 vs. Marquette and Jan. 18 vs. BYU)
Most 3FG Made in Single Game: 6, five times (most recently Feb. 8 vs. No. 11 Gonzaga)
Best 3FG Percentage (min. 4 shots): 6-7, Jan. 2 vs. Pepperdine
Consecutive 3FG Attempted: 22, from 3
rd quarter vs. Cal Poly (Dec. 7) through end of contest at UCF (Dec. 20)
3FG% inside University Credit Union Pavilion: 50% (61-122)
THREE THREE-POINT FACTS
- Out of the top-25 in the NCAA DI in 3FG percentage, only three individuals attempted more shots beyond the arc and none of them finished with a higher percentage than Wedin.
- Of the top-five in the NCAA DI in 3FG made, Wedin finished with the fewest attempted shots beyond the arc.
- Not only did Wedin's 104 made 3FG break the women's basketball program record, it also broke the school's record set by men's basketball's David Sivulich during the 1995-96 season (96 made 3FG).
