MORGAN HILL, Calif. — Saint Mary's had an impressive showing this week at the Northern California Open as both current and former Gaels posted top-3 finishes.
Jonathan De Los Reyes, who is arguably SMC's most accomplished golfer of all time, won the tournament with a 9-under 207 score across 54 holes. De Los Reyes, who graduated in 2016, got off to a hot start with a tournament-best 7-under 65 in the first round and separated from the pack even further with a 67 in the middle round. All in all, the former Gael won by two strokes over a previous teammate of his, Connor Blick.
Blick graduated in 2018 as another accomplished golfer and posted two under-par rounds to finish runner-up at the tournament held at Coyote Creek Golf Course. Like De Los Reyes, Blick's finest round came on Monday as he shot 6-under 66 and didn't have a single bogey through the first 18 holes.
Current Gael Dylan VanderVeer also competed in the tourney as an amateur and finished tied for second among the other amateurs. The redshirt senior was incredibly consistent over the three rounds with scores of 71, 73, and 72, respectively. SMC assistant coach Cody Robinson also competed in the professional division of the competition and finished tied for 7th.

In addition to the team's success at the NorCal Open, Blake Hathcoat and Michael Slesinski took top honors at the 2021 US Four-Ball Qualifying Tournament held at Brookside Country Club in Stockton earlier in the week. The duo shot 13-under and combined for 14 birdies and two eagles during their tremendous round. Hathcoat and Slesinski will now have an invitation to compete at the US Amateur Four-Ball Championship in May 2021 which is being hosted at Chambers Bay Golf Course in Washington.
